This year, UMSA and Auckland UMNO Club (AUC) collaborated to present Malaysian Festival where it consisted of a Malaysian Expo, Pasar Malam and the highly anticipated Makan Night. Both UMSA & AUC committee members have worked hard throughout the year to bring this to the members of both clubs.
Here’s some of our committee member from both clubs preparing for the expo!
We set up booths that had traditional games and activities such as Congkak, Batu Seremban, Kolam, Henna and Diabolo (Chinese Yoyo). This was to attract local students to get them interested in some of the Malaysian traditional games and activities. Some of them were fascinated with the colourful Kolam!
Our ‘bride’ and ‘groom’ for the day during the Berarak (Wedding Parade)!
While the expo was happening at the Quad, there was a showcasing of a Berarak. Even from the Quad, we could hear the sounds of kompang! Heaps of people were taking their phones out and taking photos/recordings of the parade. It must have peaked their curiosity or reminded them of home!
Our talented dance performers 🙂
We thought the best ways to introduce people to Malaysian cultures was through our amazing food and some dance moves!
Our talented Vice President, Kah Yee, and her friend performing Diabolo 🙂
On and all, it was an awesome day. Special thanks to Uncle Man & Newton Cafe for bringing and selling some of their delicious homemade food. A huge thank you to everyone who came and supported our first day of Malaysian Festival. We hope you enjoyed it and will see you at the next event!
